ABOUT BROWN’S MARINA
Founded by the Brown family in 1956, Brown's Marina is a boutique marina that continues to be defined by avid boaters and family-owned business. In 2019, ownership transferred to the Bloom family, a Norwalk-based family of shellfish farmers and passionate boaters.
Fortified by its rich history in the shipbuilding Town of Stratford, Brown’s Marina is located not far from where Bedell’s Shipyard was sited in the 1900’s. Bedell’s Shipyard built approximately 90 boats and specialized in wooden oysters boats powered by steam engines. The Grace P. Lowndes, currently captained by Jimmy Bloom, was the second-to-last wooden oyster boat built by Bedell’s Shipyard in 1931.
Today, the marina and the Housatonic River remain an important part of Connecticut’s long-standing shellfish industry. Brown’s Marina and the surrounding area is at the heart of recreational and commercial fishing, especially revered for its striped bass, bluefish, blackfish, sea bass, scup and more.
Rooted in Tradition
